About Me

I’m Othmane Echchabi, an M.Sc. student in Computer Science at McGill University and the Mila Québec AI Institute, where I also serve as a Lab Representative. My work focuses on machine learning for remote sensing. I’ve led applied machine-learning projects across environmental monitoring and mobility analytics.

News

  • February 2026: Our paper "Detecting Transportation Mode Using Dense Smartphone GPS Trajectories and Transformer Models" has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Geographical Information Science (IJGIS). Project page available here!
  • December 2025: I'm elected as a Lab Representative at Mila as part of the 2025–2026 cohort!
  • September 2025: I started my M.Sc. in Computer Science at McGill and Mila, supervised by Prof. David Rolnick!
  • August 2025: Featured on the Duke Kunshan YouTube channel discussing my work on SpeedTransformer for sustainable AI applications.
  • May 2025: Our paper "Tracking Progress Towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 Using Satellite Imagery" is now available on its project page! Work done with collaborators from DKU and Columbia.
